With only two minutes of play Whitecraigs were awarded a kickable penalty but Ryan Moffat pushed the kick wide to the left.
Within the first six minutes of play Andy Scott had put in two fine tackles to deny Whitecraigs the opening try. With ten minutes played and after a succession of penalties against CQP Craigs finally took the lead when Moffat slotted a penalty followed shortly afterwards with another. Midway through the first half CQP reduced the leeway with a successful penalty from Burrows boot.
With twenty-eight minutes played Whitecraigs finally crossed the CQP line and the conversion was successful to give them a 13-3 lead and this remained the score at half-time.
Early in the second half after sustained pressure from Craigs they crossed the CQP line for the second time fifteen metres to the right of the posts but the conversion was unsuccessful.
With ten minutes played Peter Hollier replaced Andy White.
CQP responded by lifting their game and an excellent chip by Michael Sherlock led to Andy Scott gathering the ball and diving over for a first class try which Burrows converted to reduce the gap to 18-10 Clearly the next score would be vital in deciding the outcome of this game and with sixty-five minutes played it was secured by Craigs when Whittaker crashed over for a converted try following a Craigs lineout
The game then went into something of a lull with CQP finding it difficult to secure enough possession to put Craigs under any real pressure and the game ended with Craigs scoring their fourth try in the right hand corner which was converted and amid unbridled joy from the Whitecraigs team the final whistle went to assure Craigs of promotion into Premier 2.
Craigs now move on to play second placed Hamilton at home. If they can put in the same performance as that put in against CQP with the game at home it looks odds on that they will win and secure the title.
Craigs are certainly the tallest and probably the heaviest team in premier three and look well capable of giving a very good account of themselves in premier two.
One feature of this game was the fine defensive tackling of the CQP backs. Both Andy Scott and Tam Davidson stood out in this regard and Andy Scott had arguably his best ever game in a CQP shirt.
