The CQP squad showed several changes from the squad which was fielded against GHA. Wayne Burrows had injured his back at training on Thursday and Andy Noble had recovered from his illness. In addition Fraser McKinnon was once again available and both our new Australians Jake Douglas and Tom Hine were included.

Conditions were perfect for open rugby with virtually no wind but the pitch was heavy because of recent rain.
Lasswade kicked off and the ball ended in the in goal area where Michael Sherlock touched down and then launched a good drop out downfield for Johnny Manning to gather and make considerable ground before releasing the ball to Andy Noble. Soon after this CQP who were looking lively drove the Lasswade pack over their line but the ball was adjudged to have been held up. CQP continued to dominate the set piece and after seven minutes the Lasswade number 4 was binned for persistent fouling.
Andi Black then put CQP into a three point lead with a penalty conversion in front of the posts. CQP were playing at high pace and showing good commitment.
With twelve minutes played Lasswade finally forced their way into the CQP half and were rewarded with a penalty about thirtyfive metres out but the kick was missed. Three minutes later Lasswade scorned another opportunity to open their account when a penalty about twentyfive metres out was pulled to the left.
Gillies now replaced Hollier and five minutes later Douglas made his debut when he came on for Callum Dickson. With twenty four minutes played Lasswade again failed to convert another kickable penalty and the score remained at three nil to CQP.Having had the upper hand in the opening period the advantage had moved to Lasswade. Lasswade then missed another opportunity to get on the board with yet another penalty miss,
CQP responded and a fine break down the middle ended when the ref blew for a forward pass.
CQP forced their way upfield and were rewarded with a five metre scrum with thirtytwo minutes played. Michael Phlic had however sustained an injury and was replaced at this point by Andy Lamont. CQP drove Lasswade back but the ball was picked up at the back of the scrum after this CQP mauled the ball over and Andi Black converted to give CQP a 10-0 lead.Captain Graham Williamson was the scorer.
Just before the half-time whistle CQP were awarded another penalty which Andi Black again converted and CQP went into the break leading 13-0.
With eight minutes played from good CQP pressure Cookie spotted a gap and barged over for try number two which Andi Converted to push CQP into a 20-0 lead.
Shortly after this Lasswade pressure yielded a penalty in front of the posts but Lasswade opted for a scrum a decision which seemed a bit strange given that it was CQP who had the upperhand in that area.
With threequarters of the game played CQP succeeded in pushing Lasswade back over their line from a set scrum and Ross Gilliews got the touchdown. Andi Black again converted to give CQP a solid 27-0 lead.
Stuart Hamilton now came on for Tom Hine. With twenty-eight minutes played Jake Douglas took the ball just outside the CQP twenty-two and sprinted clear eventually brushing aside two attempted Lasswade tries to swallow over the line behind the posts giving Andi Black an easy chance to maintain his 100% kicking record for the day.
To their credit although the game was clearly now beyond them Lasswade kept on trying and were rewarded when with five minutes of regulation time left they managed to get a try from forward pressure close to the posts and this time managed to get the ball between the sticks to move the score to 34-7.
With only injury time left Williamson scored his second try from a maul which Andi Black converted to move the score to 41-7 to CQP at the final whistle.
By common agreement after the game this was a much improved performance compared to the previous week and there were no failures in the CQP ranks. A significant factor in the game was the quality of the CQP defence which denied Lasswade opportunities to score on several occasions. Up front the pack put in a very effective performance especially in the set piece.
This match concluded the first half of the season leaving CQP in sixth place. with six wins a draw and four defeats. The run in should be very interesting with CQP due to play Dumfries, GHA and Kirkcaldy at Dumbreck.
Man of the match award was given to Andi Black in recognition of his 100% kicking success rate and good performance in other areas.
