The first XV match reports for Howe and Hill/Hill are online. Thanks to Gavin McGregor for compiling.

This seasons reports have the Game first and followed by the date.

Last seasons are in the Match Archive

Because of adverse weather over the winter both teams were resuming after a long period of enforced idleness. In addition the very wet ground conditions meant that this cup tie took place on the second XV pitch. Cartha lost the toss and kicked into a brisk wind but they dominated the open encounters.  Unforunatley this pressure was not converted into points and when  a CQP downfield kick was sent straight back upfield and the Hills scrum half who always looked dangerous won the footrace to the line to score in the left hand corner. The score went unconverted to give Hills a 5-0 lead.

Hills later increased their lead with a successful penalty.

In the second half CQP reduced the arrears when a fine tackle by Ross Gilmour in midfield on the left lead to CQP opening up the play with some fine passing leading to Andy Noble securing a try on the right hand side. Andi Blacks attempted conversion failed when the kick from the right touchline hit the right hand upright.

Any thoughts CQP had that they could overcome Hills lead were dashed when a succession of penalties to Hills ended with Rob May sinbinned for an alleged professional foul. This was followed by the sinbinning of Ian Whitton who had come on from the bench.Ian was adjudged to have handled on the ground. Ian a second row forward was making his debut appearance having recently transferred to CQP from Alan Glens. With CQP down to thirteen players it was not surprising that Hills now had the advantage and they made use of this when they scored a second try this time converted to give them a 15-5 lead which is where it ended but not before CQP lost a third player to the bin when with only a minute to go Michael Plich got his marching orders

During the course of the game numerous players especially on the CQP side required attention from the physio which was hardly surprising given the long enforced lay off and the very heavy ground conditions.

Given the conditions it is pleasing to be able to report that on the CQP side there was much slick backs passing play on display and the forwards tried hard throughout having the better of it in the tight when both teams were at full strength..

Overall the CQP were not too disappointed with their teams performance especially taking into account the number of influential players who were missing. In the forwards both Gillies and Cook were unavailable while in the backs Andy Scott David Goudie and Wayne Burrows were not on show.

The final conclusion was that there was not a great deal between the teams and that both clubs were just relieved to have succeeded in getting this first round tie played. Hills reward will be a second round away match at Old Anniesland against Hawks .CQP can now resume league duty at home to Haddington this Saturday.

There were so many substitutions being made that it was somewhat difficult to determine what the CQP team was but the following players took the field Backs: May.Noble,R Gilmour, Nyangweso Hine McInnes Black and Davidson.Forwards: Williamson.Hollier,Nellaney,Harvey,Lamont,McKinnon,Plich,Dickson,Burke and Whitton

Final Score Cartha Queen's Park 5 Hillhead/Jordanhill 15
